Michael Grant

High School: St. Andrews High and Toryo High
Love: Koishikawa Miki

Michael is an exchange student from New York who came to live in the Koishikawa/Matsuura household. He speaks oddly enough, perfect Japanese, learning the language by watching a bunch of Samurai movies.

Michael at first was a very outgoing American who was very wide eyed and excited about being in Japan. He even got excited watching the moving sushi bar. He also likes to hug and kiss people a good morning and a good night because we Americans like doing that stuff, right? He was thought off as strange because of this when he started doing it in Japan because Japan is very conservative when it come to that kind of affection. When he started to twirl Suzu around in the mall because he was happy, the whole store stopped to stare at them in shock.

He is a year younger than Miki and entered as a Junior in Toryo High School (the other main characters are Seniors now of course). He doesn't wear a uniform which is kind of weird and is popular around the Sophmore girls who chase him around everyday.

Michael though, became the stereotypical "ugly American". After those first few episodes where we see his good and amusing side, Michael just became plain annoying. And not in a good way like Tsutomu (where you just laugh at his antics)but the bad way. To be cliche about it, he's the guy you just love to hate because he was just so irritating.

He and Kei were in competition for Miki's love. He lost out on the Miki bid, mainly because he was an idiot who wasn't very sensitive about her feelings. He did some pretty childish stuff on the show but it wasn't as serious as what Suzu and Jinny had done. And he did become a pretty nice guy in the end where he actually began to have the mind of an adult instead of acting like a "child" as Kei pointed out to him. And you never know, maybe he'll have something going on with nice and sweet Anju.
