Miki is in her room writing to her best friend, Meiko, telling her that her life is so boring because nothing "Exciting" ever happens to her.
Miki's parents, Jin and Rumi call her down to talk and they offer her cake as from their fine China. They tell her rather happily that they are getting a divorce and that they are going to marry and swap partners with another couple they had met in their trip in Hawaii. The couple's name was Matsuura.
Needless to say, she was very upset. She tells Meiko at school that her parents are such idiots and swapping partners is just so stupid. But Meiko assures Miki that her parents aren't as bad as hers. At least they don't hate each other. She tells Miki that though her parents don't love each other, they don't want to get a divorce because they don't want to have the financial problems. She tells Miki that she never wants to get married because her marriage might end up like theirs and she doesn't want that.
A boy named Ginta comes into the picture and tells Miki that they're going to be late for tennis practice and they should get going. But Miki says she has to skip it because she has to go out to dinner with her parents. She doesn't tell Ginta whats happening, afraid also that he might think its stupid.
At dinner Miki finally meet the Matsuura's and her new would be Step-father, Youji and Step mother, Chiyako. Then after a while, their son also comes walking in. A son her age that is very handsome so Miki starts to blush. His name is You and to her surprise is very reserved about the whole situation. It seemed like he didn't care about what was happening and she was mad. How could they do this? Miki slams her hands on the table and starts to cry.
"You don't care about my grades. You're a bad cook. You oversleep all the time, and you waste your time shopping and going on trips...But they are my mother and father and to be apart from them...NO..."But the parents aren't worried about it because they tell her that they will be renting a house together so no one could be apart. Miki is again surprised and mad. You tells her to just give it up... And with a lot of hesitation she tells them she understands. The parents celebrate and jump for joy.
The next day, they are all unpaking in their new house and You tells Miki that they should go shopping. Miki agrees. You begins to tease her and she gets mad again. "That rude way you talk doesn't suit that pretty face of yours" She says to him.
"Well you're just as rude and you're ugly too." You says. ~Miki is annoyed~ However he tells her that she shouldn't get so mad because "doubling the size of your family is a lot of fun". He sticks his hand out for a truce. So Miki shakes his hand, only to find out that he had put his gum in her hand. She gets mad again and starts to chase him. You just laughs.
At school the next day, Miki meets up with Meiko and is in a happy mood. Meiko wonders why that is and Miki says that school is the only place where she doesn't have to think about her family situation. As soon as she says that however, a briefcase hits her on the head. It's You. And she asks what he's doing in their school. You says that he transfered. The two walk away. And Meiko looks at them. Ginta stands by Meiko and also looks at them. He asks if You is a transfer student and if Miki is aquainted with him cause they look like they are familiar with each other. Meiko says that they look like brother and sister.
Later on, You tells Miki that he doesn't want to join any clubs because it'll intrupt the other things he wants to do. Miki asks what that is but he doesn't answer. He instead asks what the building across from the school is and Miki says its the library, but no one really goes there because its just filled with old books....He tells her he has to go and that he'll skip a class. Miki wonders what's up with him. We then see You inside the library, smiling as he looks out the window. "This place isn't so bad..." he says.
At gym class, Miki is surprised that You is such a good basketball player and watches him. Not paying attention to her own game of basketball, a ball hits her hard right on the face and she passes out. So now she's in the nurses office, embarassed that everyone saw her getting hit in the face. She hears You outside her room talking to Meiko, asking if Miki was Ok. Miki is worried. She knows that You would surely insult her if she was awake so when You comes into her room, she pretends that she is asleep to avoid his humiliation. You looks down on her and quietly just stares at her. He leans down and kisses her on the lips for a long momet and leaves.
Miki gets up with big surprised eyes. Her face is red and she puts her hand over her mouth. He kissed me. Why did he have to do such a thing?
